John Morton Blum Fellowship for Graduate Research in American History and Culture

Established in honor of Sterling Professor Emeritus of History John Blum by various Graduate School alumni of the departments of History and American Studies, the Blum Fellowship provides a summer stipend to a doctoral candidate to support dissertation research in the field of twentieth-century American history and culture.

Application Information: Applicants must register for this competition using the Yale Grants & Fellowships database and upload the following application materials directly to the database in advance of the submission deadline.

• One- to two-page description of specific research and writing to be performed during the tenure of the fellowship and how this will advance the broader goals of the dissertation project overall (Please note that a dissertation prospectus is not an acceptable substitute.)
• Itemized budget of projected expenses

In addition, the applicant needs to indicate the name and e-mail address of their Yale faculty advisor who will provide a letter of reference. Students should post this information to the database at least three weeks in advance of the submission deadline to allow the faculty adequate time to provide references.

Applicants must have advanced to candidacy and been enrolled in a Ph.D. program for no more than six years at the time of the application deadline.
