Overview
This fund was created on March 11, 1993 as a memorial fund for Richard T Thornberry. Thornberry taught in the WIU English Department from 1961 until his retirement in 1988. He was a retired lieutenant commander in the US Naval Reserve serving four years during World War II as a commissioned officer on the USS Cleveland.
Eligibility
CRITERIA:
- English graduate student
- Applicants must be graduate students who have completed at least one semester of graduate work at Western.
- Each applicant will submit a graduate-level paper with his or her application, along with a letter from the faculty member for whom the paper was written, and one additional letter of recommendation
- The award will be granted on the basis of the paper, graduate grade point average, and letter of recommendation.
