Overview

History and purpose:

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is committed to providing an inclusive, barrier free environment that celebrates diversity. These scholarships are designed to encourage Māori, Pasifika and women in their leadership and academic excellence. The scholarships do this by providing financial support to students who wish to complete postgraduate research in a full-time, research-focussed Master's degree at the School of Engineering and Computer Science.

These scholarships are available to Māori, Pasifika and women who wish to study a Master’s with a thesis component of 90 points or more, at the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Victoria University of Wellington.

Eligibility
  • Applications are sought from those who are eligible at the time of application, or who will have become eligible by the start of Trimester 2 the following year, to enrol in a Master’s degree by thesis worth 90 points or more. In some cases this will be Part 2 of a two-year Master’s degree and will usually have the course code 591.
  • Applicants would normally be expected to have completed a Bachelor or Honours degree or Master’s degree Part 1 demonstrating academic achievement equivalent to a First-Class Honours degree from a New Zealand University.
  • Applicants undertaking a 180 point Master’s degree will not be eligible for this scholarship.

Selection Criteria:

  • Applicants must be intending to enrol full-time in a Master's degree by thesis worth 90 points or more, at the School of Engineering and Computer Science, Victoria University of Wellington.
  • Applicants must belong to an Equity group (Māori/Pasifika/Women).
  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
