This scholarship is offered to provide financial support for wāhine Māori students who grew up in Te Ika-a-Māui (the North Island). The scholarship is focused on supporting students intending to undertake a Graduate Diploma of Teaching at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.
History:
This scholarship has been established by Lyna Samosir for the purpose of encouraging and financially supporting the successful pursuit of tertiary qualifications and educational leadership for wāhine Māori students from Te Ika-a-Māui (the North Island).
To be eligible for the Lyna Samosir Scholarship, applicants must be wāhine Māori students who grew up in Te Ika-a-Māui (the North Island), have completed (or will be shortly completing) an undergraduate degree and intending to undertake either a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) or Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary) at the start of 2023 at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.
Selection criteria:
- Applicants must be wāhine Māori.
- Applicants must have Māori whakapapa and have grown up in Te Ika-a-Māui (the North Island).
- Applicants must have completed (or will be completing) an undergraduate degree and intending to undertake either a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) or Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary) at the start of 2023 at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.
- Applicants must have completed (or nearly completed) the relevant undergraduate courses to meet the entry requirements for either a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) or Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary).
- Preference will be given for wāhine Māori who grew up in regional or rural communities.
- Preference will be given to registered beneficiaries of Tūhoe.
- Preference will be given to students who completed their undergraduate degree at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.
