History and purpose:
The scholarship is funded from the endowment established by the fundraising challenge initiated by Glenn Schaeffer and is managed by the Victoria University of Wellington Foundation.
Institute of Modern Letters Project Scholarships are awarded to students who have completed their MA in Creative Writing. Scholarships will be awarded in cases where examiners believe that four to six weeks of funded full-time writing, following the examination process, will help bring a folio project to a level where it is ready for submission to a publisher, production house, or theatre.
There are six scholarships in the stream - Writing for the Page (CREW 591)
The Jean Squire Project Scholarship - with preference for it to go to a children's writer where appropriate
The Letteri Family Project Scholarship Four Creative Writing Project Scholarships
There are two scholarships in the stream - Scriptwriting (CREW 592)
The Michael Hirschfeld Project Scholarship
One Creative Writing Project Scholarship
The scholarship is open to MA in Creative Writing students who are due to submit their thesis.
Selection Criteria:
Applicants must be enrolled in, and completing, the MA in Creative Writing at the Institute of Modern Letters, Victoria University of Wellington, at the time they apply.
