Description:

This scholarship is for students undertaking or intending to undertake an Honours or Masters degree at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington in areas related to Peace Building or Peace Studies, Trust Building, Conflict Resolution, addressing Historical Injustice, Restorative Justice, Social Cohesion, Community building and promoting cross-cultural understanding, Change Making or Ethical Leadership.

History:

This scholarship has been funded by Initiatives of Change New Zealand in memory of Glenys Wood, who was a lifelong supporter and full-time worker for Initiatives of Change and who introduced the international Creators of Peace programme to New Zealand.

Initiatives of Change is a global movement of people working together to build trust across the world's divides and has been committed to working for change for almost a century. It is a movement that encourages global change through personal transformation ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’. Creators of Peace is a movement transforming, empowering and engaging women in peace creation for all and is active in 50+ countries.

Initiatives of Change New Zealand wishes to celebrate Glenys Wood’s passion and commitment to building peace and trust and promoting healing where needed in her local community, in wider New Zealand, and in the world and her consistent encouragement of the change-makers of tomorrow. This scholarship has been established to emerging change makers in their studies.

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be undertaking study in areas related to Peace Building or Peace Studies, Trust Building, Conflict Resolution, addressing Historical Injustice, Restorative Justice, Social Cohesion, Community building and promoting cross-cultural understanding, Change Making or Ethical Leadership
  • Applicants must be enrolled, or intending to enrol part-time or full time, in an Honours or Master’s degree at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
  • Applicants must be either New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Selection criteria:

The scholarship will be awarded to a student undertaking or intending to undertake a postgraduate degree within an area of study related to themes of peace and trust building and ethical leadership, which are two of the key focus areas of the international organisation of Initiatives of Change.
