Overview
History and purpose:
This scholarship, along with the C. Wright Mills Scholarship in Anthropology (University of Canterbury), partly replaces the C. Wright Mills Scholarship in Sociology and Criminology at University of Canterbury, which had been established in 1985 by Dr. Charles P. Sedgwick in memory of Jean Margaretta Rhoda Morgan and Peter Warmsley Sedgwick and as a tribute to the noted American sociologist C. Wright Mills.
The scholarship is open to graduates of any university in New Zealand or of the University of the South Pacific, who are enrolled or intending to enrol full-time or part-time, in a Masters by thesis or a PhD in Criminology at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.
Eligibility
- scholarship is open to students who are enrolled or intending to enrol full-time or part-time, in a Masters by thesis or a PhD in Criminology at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.
- A recipient of this scholarship who is not already enrolled in a programme for a Masters by thesis in Criminology or a PhD in Criminology should normally be enrolled in such a programme by 31 March in the year following application.
- A recipient who is unable to enrol by the applicable deadline must seek permission from the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to take up the scholarship at a later date. Without this permission the award will be terminated.
Selection Criteria:
- Applicants must be enrolled or intending to enrol full-time or part-time, in a Masters by thesis or a PhD in Criminology at Victoria University of Wellington.
