Overview
History and purpose:
This scholarship was established in 2014 by the Anstiss-Garland Charitable Trust. The Trust was established following the death of Diana Anstiss in 2012. She and Lilian Garland were companions for many years and both had an interest in helping those in need and those who could be considered disadvantaged in society. Diana’s professional career included working for the Prison Service and she was the Assistant Manager at Arohata Women’s Prison before she retired.
The purpose of this scholarship is to support postgraduate students studying social justice in areas relating to rehabilitation and restorative justice.
Eligibility
Who is Eligible?
- Applicants must be full-time postgraduate students studying at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington.
- Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents.
- Students from any course of study which focuses on social justice but students studying Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Law and Restorative Justice are encouraged to apply.
- Students holding a full three-year PhD scholarship are not eligible to apply.
Selection Criteria:
- Applicants must be postgraduate students at Victoria University of Wellington.
- Applicants must be currently studying in areas which relate to social justice such as prevention of recidivism, minority group representation in court and prisons or youth crime or restorative justice.
- Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents.
