Development of Biosensors for Medical and Agricultural Purposes
UTS
Working with Prof Stella Valenzuela (UTS) and her commercial partner, Adj Prof Bruce Cornell (SDx Surgical Diagnostics Pty Ltd), the project is aimed at creating novel biosensors for detection of analytes for medical or agricultural purposes.
The project will suit students with a background in either biochemistry or molecular biology, with an interest in multidisciplinary bionanotechnology research. As part of your PhD work, you will receive training in electrical impedance spectroscopy techniques. Your research will be in the Life Science Laboratories at the UTS Ultimo Campus, right in the heart of Sydney. There will also be opportunities to work directly with the commercial partner at their headquarters in Roseville and potentially in a clinical setting.
This project is supported by the Australia Research Council funded IDEAL Hub.
Domestic applicants who have completed either:
- MSc Research, or
- MSc Coursework with more than 6 months research, or
- Honours First Class or Second Class Div 1. Skills in molecular biology and / or biochemistry are highly desirable.
