Iris Glover Scholarship in Early Childhood Education

The Iris Glover Scholarship in Early Childhood Education has been established by Dr Anne Glover AO and Ms Rosemary Green AM in honour of their mother‚ Iris Glover. A lifelong learner with a very strong commitment to young children’s learning‚ Iris Glover was a teacher in small rural schools throughout South Australia from the late 1930s to the early 1970s. Years later‚ many students remembered the difference she had made in their lives. Her caring approach extended to trainee teachers‚ teachers beginning their careers and colleagues‚ all of whom she inspired with her enthusiastic‚ hardworking and caring approach and her extraordinary ability to adapt to change while always seeking the best learning outcomes for children.
The scholarship is tenable for up to three years.
Essential criteria
- Enrolled full-time
- In the second year of the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) program; OR
- In the second year of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Honours) program.
- Australian citizens or Permanent Residents.
Selection criteria The Scholarships Office will assess applications and determine a shortlist of applicants. Selection will be based on:
A written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing: o Evidence of financial disadvantage o Reasons for studying early childhood education o Career and personal aspirations o How the scholarship will assist them in achieving their career and personal goals
Academic merit: o Applicants must demonstrate satisfactory academic performance with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0
o Applications from mature-age students will be considered favourably.
Tenure criteria Subsequent payments are conditional upon successful completion of prior courses‚ current enrolment and maintaining a Grade Point Average of 4.0 or above.
Value: $10‚000 up to 3 years. Recipients will receive an annual payment of $3‚333.33 paid in two instalments of $1‚666.66 after the Study Period 2 and Study Period 5 census dates.
