Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal Scholarship (sponsored by Department for Industry, Innovation and Science)

The Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal Scholarship (sponsored by Department for Innovation and Skills) is a $5,000 scholarship open to Australian *Aboriginal students who are enrolled full-time in the final year of an undergraduate or postgraduate program at the University of South Australia. Applicants must be a resident of South Australia at the time of application and expect to reside in South Australia during the term of the scholarship to satisfy the mentoring and/or in-kind assistance provisions of the scholarship.
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of a personal written statement and a Curriculum Vitae (CV). The applicant's written statement should outline:
reasons for studying their current program academic achievements community service involvement Preference may be given to applicants who can demonstrate financial disadvantage and/or academic merit.
Applicants undertaking studies in any of the following areas will be considered favourably:
- Commerce
- Management
- Economics
- Law
- Mathematics and Statistics
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Environmental Studies
- Engineering
- Urban and Regional Planning
- Construction Management and Economics
- Project Management
- Social Science
- Communication
- Aboriginal Studies
The recipient will be offered six hours of informal mentoring or in-kind assistance by the Department of State Development. In addition the recipient will be given the opportunity to network and build relationships with the Department staff by attending two functions. The recipient must have the ability to be a positive ambassador for the Department.
Previous recipients of a Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Once you have submitted your online application via myScholarships, you will be contacted by the UniSA Scholarships team within 5-7 business days and advised what supporting documentation you are required to provide in order to be considered for the grant(s) that you have been deemed eligible for. Please note:
- If you are eligible for a grant, it does not mean you will be awarded the grant.
- do not provide any supporting documentation until you have been advised to.
Value: $5,000 will be made in two instalments of $2,500 after the Study Period 2 and Study Period 5 census dates provided the recipient continues to meet the scholarship criteria and maintain satisfactory academic performance.
