Overview

This award was established in memory of Anthony John Adamson – Chief Petty Officer Weapon Engineering Artificer, Royal Navy. Anthony would do anything for his dog Baci. Through his love for dogs, Anthony was inspired to volunteer his time to drive a visually impaired Toronto resident and his Seeing Eye dog Ralph for hydrotherapy treatment at the Smith Lane Animal Hospital over a three-year period. These two strangers quickly developed a brotherly bond over these visits and was a testament of Anthony’s generosity of spirit. The Anthony John Adamson Memorial Scholarship was created to recognize students who have given of their time through volunteerism in small animal rehabilitation, and where applicable, have made significant contributions to enhance the independence and dignity of others through the rehabilitation of service dogs. Apply by October 7th to Student Financial Services with a Financial Need Assessment Form, and send a letter detailing volunteer activities (including number of volunteer hours and leadership roles held, as well as any volunteer experience related to service dogs if applicable), and a reference letter from a volunteer supervisor during the Fall call for applications from the OVC Dean’s office. Selection will be based on the quality of the student’s volunteer activities in terms of the total number of volunteer hours, the impact of the volunteer activities, as well as leadership roles held.
