About

The Physical Chemistry Research Interest Group (RIG) welcomes applications from prospective research students with an interest in Physical Chemistry or Chemical Physics for the Oct 2024 PhD Cohort.

The RIG offers exciting opportunities to join dynamic, world-leading research groups encompassing a wide range of state-of-the-art Physical Chemistry and Chemical Physics projects including biophysics, atmospheric chemistry and surface science. Brief summaries of research interests are given at the weblink below. Individual academic staff members are very willing to discuss potential projects with candidates at any time, and look forward, where possible, to meeting candidates via the on-line department Open Day on 26 October 2023.

Our RIG typically recruits approximately ten graduate students per year, supported by a wide variety of funding sources including industry, national research councils, charitable and trust funds, and the Cambridge colleges. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact potential supervisors by phone or e-mail in good time to discuss projects and funding opportunities. The deadline for applications is 5th December 2023 for those wishing to be considered for all the funding options.

The RIG hosts a diverse international population of research students, which it seeks to maintain and enhance, particularly from under-represented groups. We particularly encourage BAME applicants, LGBTQ applicants, applicants with disabilities and other underrepresented groups in the chemical sciences.

You can view potential PhD/Masters projects in the Physical Chemistry Research Interest Group at the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge here.
