The Scholarship was established in 2016 and is funded by Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland. Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and equitable study environment for all students who have the potential to succeed in a university of high international standing. The University of Auckland Academic Potential Scholarship acknowledges that some talented students may face significant barriers to tertiary education, and takes into account a number of factors that can impact on an individual’s ability to participate at university. They recognise students who have achieved academically, but who are experiencing hardships or who may have been disadvantaged due to their personal circumstances.

Applicable study: First three full-time years of an undergraduate degree programme at Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland for students currently enrolled in an approved Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland pathway programme (see Note V)

Selection process:
- Application is made to the Scholarships Office
- A Review Committee assesses the applications
- The Scholarship is awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of the Review Committee
