Estranged Student Bursary

The aim of the Estranged Student Bursary is to enable and encourage UK students who meet the definition of estrangement from their family to pursue their undergraduate studies at UCL
Eligibility
Eligible candidates must:
- be domiciled in the UK with Home fee status;
- be aged under 25 and have been classified as an independent student on the grounds of estrangement by Student Finance;
- hold an offer of admission to UCL to study a full-time undergraduate degree for the 2023/24 intake or be currently studying a full-time undergraduate degree at UCL.
Value, benefits, and duration
The award will be £1,000 per year for the duration of the programme, subject to student remaining under the age of 25. The bursary is awarded to cover maintenance costs.
Awardees can request for an advance payment of £200 to help with transition costs.
Selection
Students are expected to apply for their full student finance loans entitlement and prove their status as an independent student based on estrangement for the purposes of Student Finance
Students cannot be considered for the Estranged Student Bursary if they are eligible for the Care Leaver Bursary.
