Overview

This non-renewable scholarship was established in memory and honor of former Smackover and El Dorado School District educator Lois M. Meekins. The scholarship is awarded annually to at least one El Dorado High School Senior of African-American heritage

Online Application must include:

  • Completed online Scholarship application must be submitted by March 31st
  • Cumulative high school transcript through the most recent term which must include either ACT or SAT score.
  • Two (2) letter of recommendation. One from a current teacher and one from another adult (non-family member).
  • One single page typewritten essay describing how the student will use this award to further his/her plans as they relate to a career. This essay should not focus on the student’s achievements (which should be listed separately in the appropriate area on the application form), but should address the reasons why the student wants to pursue his/her career.
Eligibility

A recipient must be a candidate for graduation from El Dorado High School during the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded. The criteria to be used by the Advisory Committee in selection of recipients shall include but not be limited to GPA of 2.5 or higher, financial need and academic merit.
