Overview

This non-renewable scholarship was established by the family and friends of the late James B. Ellison and his son Stanley in their memory and honor. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student(s) of African-American heritage who is a senior at El Dorado High School or Strong High School.

Application Requirements:

  • Scholarship application.
  • Cumulative high school or college transcript through the most recent term (Must include ACT or SAT scores).
  • Two letters of recommendation: one from a school official and one from an adult other than a family member.
  • One typewritten essay (no more than two pages) that relates the student’s educational and career goals as well as his or her personal aspirations. The essay should also include examples of how the student may have overcome any hardship or adversity during the course of his or her life.
Eligibility

A recipient must be a candidate for graduation from high school during the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded and have a GPA no lower than a 3.0. Preference will be given to students pursuing a career in education, business or aviation. Criteria to be used by the Advisory Committee in selection of recipients shall include but not be limited to financial need and academic merit.
