Open to a student entering the fourth year of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program who is specializing in Chemical Engineering. Selection will be made based upon academic excellence as well as leadership in some field within or outside the University. Academic achievement will be based on the applicant's sessional average from the previous academic year. Assessment of leadership will be based on leadership activities as outlined in documentation submitted by applicants.

Family and friends in memory of Kevin Van Cleave, who was a graduate student in the Department of Chemical Engineering. The endowment fund was supplemented through gifts in memory of Kevin's grandparents, Mrs. Dorothy E. Van Cleave and Dr. A.B. Van Cleave. Dr. Van Cleave was a long time faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

Since 1987 Kevin's mother Sharon also passed away and memorial donations have been made to this fund in her honour as well.
