This prize recognises academic excellence in the Master of Teaching (Secondary). The Hugh Childers Memorial Prize was established in 1924 by Charles E. E. Childers and Mrs Stephen L. Simeon in memory of the Rt. Hon. Hugh Culling Eardley Childers, Vice Chancellor of the University. Childers had much to do with founding the University of Melbourne and became the university’s first Vice-Chancellor in 1853. He served until he left for England in 1857, continuing to assist the University in many ways after his departure.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • be graduating from the Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education

Selection criteria:

The prize is awarded to the graduating student who receives the second highest weighted average mark (WAM) in the course for the degree of Master of Teaching (Secondary) in the previous year.
