This bursary was established with a donation from Hilda May Gibbons and is offered to students in financial need, enrolled in a medical course and who intend to become general practitioners and not psychologists or psychiatrists.

What are the benefits?

The scholarship provides an annual allowance of approximately $1,200 (exact amount determined when award is offered) for up to the full-time duration of your course. The annual allowance is paid in two instalments usually in April and September. The duration will be reduced by any study completed towards your course prior to receiving this scholarship.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • be enrolled in a medical course (and intend to become general practitioners and not psychologists or psychiatrists) at the University of Melbourne
  • provide evidence of financial need Selection criteria:

Eligible students are selected on the basis of financial need.

Conditions:

  • You must be enrolled as a full-time student in a course at the University of Melbourne. You may be eligible to receive this scholarship while enrolled as a part-time student.
  • This scholarship cannot be deferred to the following year.
  • You must provide a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship and give permission for the University to provide the report, your name and course details to the donor.
