A* STAR PhD Programme
The University of Manchester
The four-year funded ASTAR PhD programme at Manchester enables postgraduate researchers in science and engineering to spend two years of their PhD at The University of Manchester and two years in Singapore at an ASTAR Research Institute.
- Tuition fees at the international rate
- Annual maintenance stipend equivalent to UKRI minimum stipend rate
- Airfare grants
- Settling in allowance (Singapore)
- Medical insurance
For international applicants funding will cover tuition fees and stipend only.
Specified use
This programme is open to all nationalities and across all research areas, and will be of interest to students of the highest calibre who are keen to undertake a research project in Manchester and Singapore as part of the A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP).
We are only able to offer a limited number of studentships to applicants outside the UK, therefore, full studentships will only be awarded to exceptional quality candidates due to the competitive nature of this scheme.

Academic requirements
To be considered for this award you must:
- Hold (or be about to obtain) a first class or upper second class honours degree (or international equivalent) in a related subject area.
- Ideally hold a master's-level qualification at merit or distinction (or international equivalent), although this is not compulsory.
- Meet academic eligibility criteria (inc. English language), if you are an international student
This award is available to all applicants from all countries except China, Singapore and Malaysia.
