 Overview 
Each year the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) may award up to three awards for Excellence in Research known as the Joan Duffield Research Award.
Selection The Selection Committee will consider the information provided in the Thesis Progress report (or Thesis Proposal) and Annual Progress Talk (or Proposal Talk) and will assess students based on:
- Originality and feasibility of the research;
- Impact, or potential for impact, in the relevant research field;
- Research achievements and accomplishments (e.g., submitted or published refereed papers, conference presentations); and
- Good citizenship and engagement with the RSAA and wider community (e.g., outreach activities, committee representation). The committee will take into account any program leave of absence.
 Eligibility 
The Award will be offered to a student who:
- is an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen, or an Australian permanent resident;
- is enrolled in a PhD program at RSAA and is working on a project in Astronomy & Astrophysics;
- has completed all of the required milestones to the satisfaction of the Delegated Authority.
