Overview

This scholarship has been established in memory of David Mantel ‘99 who served as Redeemer’s Athletic Director from 2005-2021. David had a passion for athletes who competed at the top of their game while honouring Jesus Christ in all things. He was a strong advocate for using lessons in sport as a springboard for meaningful discussions about faith and life. As a Redeemer student David played both indoor and outdoor soccer, during which time he took home the MVP of indoor soccer (1997-1998) and was awarded the Scholar-Athlete award for athletic and academic success. While serving in the role of Athletic Director, David was the head coach of the Men’s soccer team for 11 years, won OCAA Coach of the year in 2003-2004 and coached the 2007-2008 Men’s Indoor soccer team to a Provincial Championship. Additionally, David served as Provincial Men’s Volleyball Convenor for 3 years from 2017-2019, was OCAA VP Finance and Awards in 2019 and served on numerous committees.

Scholarships will be awarded as follows:

Up to $3,000 to both male and female varsity basketball athlete Up to $3,000 to both a male and female varsity volleyball athlete These scholarships will be awarded to student-athletes with high end talent who have demonstrated Christ-like character and leadership potential. Incoming students must be admitted in good academic standing, and will be evaluated and interviewed by the coach and the Athletic Director. Returning students will be evaluated throughout the year by the coach and the Athletic Director. The successful recipients must maintain a CGPA of 6.0 or better while in study. The Athletic Department will nominate the student-athletes.
