STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Quill and Scroll
National winners in the International Writing, Photography and Multimedia Contest, Blogging Competition or the Yearbook Excellence Contest are eligible as seniors to apply for Quill and Scroll scholarships – the Edward J. Nell Memorial, or the George and Ophelia Gallup awards. The new Richard P. Johns award is available to all Quill and Scroll seniors, including those who did not enter contests. Scholarships can be used for tuition, room and board at any college or university that offers a major in journalism or related areas of communications such as multimedia, broadcast, graphic design, strategic communications, and photography.
Quill and Scroll members, as well as national winners of the Yearbook Excellence Contest or the International Writing, Photography and Multimedia Contest and the Eye on Ivy Editorial Writing Contest are eligible to apply for our scholarships: The George and Ophelia Gallup Award, the Edward J. Nell Scholarship and the Richard P. Johns Scholarship.
We just awarded scholarships to five 2022 seniors.
Deadline for filling out the online application form for the Class of 2023 is May 15, 2023. The application form will be available in April 2023.
All scholarships can be used for tuition, room and board at any college or university. Recipients must major in journalism or a related area of communications. The scholarships are awarded for the freshman year only and are paid through the university or college bursar’s office.
Scholarships amounts can vary from $250 to $1,000. The Quill and Scroll Scholarship Committee will determine the amounts based on the applicants’ qualifications and recommendations (See Below).
Past winners have gone on to amazing careers in journalism.
Winners will be notified before June 10, 2023.
