L.W. McCaskill Scholarship
Lincoln University
This scholarship was established in memory of Dr Lancelot William McCaskill CBE, (1900 – 1985) noted educator and naturalist, Dr McCaskill was a former staff member, Associate Professor of Rural Education at Lincoln College, and the first Director of the Tussock Grasslands and Mountain Lands Institute. Regulations
The award shall be known as the L.W. McCaskill Scholarship.
The scholarship shall be open to full-time students enrolled in, or proceeding to masters or doctoral studies at Lincoln University, or in appropriate cases other universities in New Zealand.
The award shall be made to a person who has demonstrated excellence in: (i) soil conservation/land management; or (ii) nature conservation; or (iii) rural education and extension; or (iv) national park management
Preference may be given to students whose area of study has significant relevance to New Zealand in one or more of the areas listed in 2 (above).
One scholarship shall be offered annually and be tenable for one year. Scholarship holders may reapply in a subsequent year.
The scholarship shall be awarded by the Lincoln University Council on the recommendation of a selection committee which shall comprise:
- The Vice-Chancellor of Lincoln University (or nominee)
- The Chairman of the Canterbury Regional Council (or nominee)
- The Director of the Centre for Resource Management (or nominee)
- A fourth member to be appointed by the above members.
The annual value of the scholarship shall be determined by the Vice-Chancellor
The Selection Committee may refrain from making an award if, in their opinion, there is no applicant of sufficient merit.
The scholarship may be held with any other scholarship, bursary, prize or fellowship, unless the conditions of the other award preclude it.
Application forms are available from the Scholarships Office, Lincoln University, with whom applications close on 31 March each year
