Purpose
This scholarship was established in 2018 to support Māori students who are entering undergraduate study at Lincoln University and who intend to pursue a degree in the Tourism field
Number/Value
The number of scholarships awarded annually shall be decided by the ViceChancellor and shall comprise a total of $5,000 via a credit to: a) the recipient’s personal account in the form of a fortnightly stipend during the academic year. Should a scholar withdraw from study at any time during the tenure of the scholarship, the value of the scholarship will not be refunded. Successful applicants will be required to contribute positively to Māori events on campus or the activities of Te Awhioraki, the Lincoln University Māori Students’ Association, throughout the academic year
Eligibility
To be eligible to hold the scholarship applicants shall: a) Be of Māori descent. b) Be enrolled for a full time Lincoln University undergraduate Tourism degree. c) Have evidence of interest and excellence in Tourism related secondary school subjects. d) Have demonstrated leadership potential in the Māori community
Selection Criteria
The criteria for selection shall include all of the following: a) Demonstrated commitment to Māori leadership and advancement within their school or extended community, and b) Has met the entry requirements to complete a degree in the field of Tourism at Lincoln University, and c) Has evidence of excellence in Tourism related secondary school subjects.
Tenure
a) The tenure of the scholarship is for a maximum of one year. b) The scholarship is not tenable with any other Lincoln University funded scholarship. c) The scholarship is tenable with any other external scholarship, award or bursary with approval from the Lincoln University Scholarship convenor provided the conditions of the other award do not preclude it.
