John W & Carrie McLean Trust Scholarship

Purpose
The John W & Carrie McLean Trust has been established to encourage and promote postgraduate research and development relating to sheep with the end objective being to advance sheep research in New Zealand.
- Number
(1) Up to two scholarships may be awarded each year. (2) The John W & Carrie McLean Trust does not undertake to award a scholarship in every year if it is deemed there are no suitable candidates.
Eligibility (1) Scholarships will be open to any post-graduate student from Lincoln University who is a New Zealand citizen or has been resident in New Zealand for a period of not less than three years at any time during his or her lifetime. The Trust reserves the right to waive the three year requirement if no suitable applications are received. (2) Scholarships will be open to candidates who are eligible to register as candidates for postgraduate study (research only), PhD or the thesis year of a Masters degree. (3) A scholarship may be awarded to a person who is not eligible to register as a candidate with Lincoln University provided he or she becomes eligible to so register by 1 March in the year following the awards, or by such other date as may be determined by the Vice Chancellor in a particular case. (4) If a candidate awarded a scholarship under 3(3) above does not become eligible to register at Lincoln University by 1 March or by the date determined under the provisions of 3(3) above, then the award will lapse.
Selection Criteria
(1) The candidate shall be undertaking or planning to undertake an area of research which is aligned with the focus and requirements relating to sheep research as stated in the John W & Carrie McLean Trust Scholarship. (2) The proposed research area or topic has sufficient scope, complexity, or depth commensurate with research at the required level. SCHOL 110D (3) The candidate must meet all of Lincoln University’s academic selection criteria for admission into the relevant programme.
Term
(1) Every scholarship shall be tenable for a maximum of one year from the commencement date of the tenure of the scholarship except as otherwise provided in clause 6(2) below. (2) Successful applicants may reapply in subsequent years provided the scholar has the eligibility to register as a candidate at Lincoln University for the year of application or as per 3(3) above.
