EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training Award (Applied Photonics)

The Centre for Doctoral Training has been funded by EPSRC and Industry since 2001 and is the longest running Centre for Doctoral Training in Photonics in the UK. Our CDT is a partnership between the Universities of Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Strathclyde and St Andrews and is led by Heriot-Watt University.

The CDT is unique as each of our exciting research projects is sponsored by industry, providing industrially-informed doctoral projects related to photonics and industry.

UK photonics has consistently outperformed overall UK manufacturing growth over the last 6 years. Based on manufacturing Industry growth data from the Office of National Statistics, UK photonics has grown four times faster than overall UK manufacturing over the same time period, reflecting the ever increasing importance of photonics in modern society.
