Overview
Objective
The programme aims at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. To this end, scholarships are granted for development-related Master or doctoral studies for individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and / or research at a higher education institution in South Asia.
Who can apply?
Graduates and postgraduates from Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka with a first academic degree if applying for a Master’s programme, or with a Master’s degree if applying for a doctoral programme who want to pursue Master’s or PhD courses at the IIT Bombay in India (In-Region scholarships).
What can be funded?
The In-Region Scholarship Programme supports studies in subject areas with strong relevance to national development.
The scholarships at IIT Bombay are available in the following fields:
- Renewable Energy
- Climate Change
- Engineering
- Public Health
- Good Governance
Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.
Duration of the funding
Master programme up to two years / PhD programme up to five years

Selection
The application process contains two steps. Please be aware of the two application deadlines:
First step All Applicants are asked to log into the DAAD-Portal, register themselves and submit a DAAD application.
Deadline for DAAD application: 15.01.2022.
Second step All applicants must apply to IIT Bombay for admission. Application closing date at host institution: 15.01.2022.
