Overview

The Loretta Mahoney Memorial Bursary was founded by the late Loretta Mahoney herself as a bequest to the University. The purpose of this bursary is to support and encourage full-time female students with financial need and satisfactory academic standing, who are enrolled in Bachelor's programs in any area of study in the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science. This bursary is renewable twice on the basis of continuing full-time enrollment in the aforementioned area, and a minimum GPA of at least 2.00.

Loretta Mahoney MBA '74, BSc '62 (L) ‘walked the talk’. In her undergraduate yearbook she stated her philosophy as; “The power to Endure…the Will to do”. Loretta, the first full time female to attend and graduate from Loyola College, did much to further the cause of women. She graduated with a BSc (Certificate in Chemical Engineering) and served as Salutatorian for her graduating class. In 1974 she attained an MBA from Concordia University.

A woman in a man’s world, Loretta left her mark on Petro Fina. Her career culminated as Director for Energy, Mines and Resources with the Canadian Government. True to her alma mater she was ‘a person for others’. Her diverse interests included; Board Directorships with the Ottawa Community Care Access Centre, the Cumis Credit Union and the Glebe Centre. Her travel, reading, photography, sewing and athletic pursuits provided balance to her rich and full life. Whatever Loretta embraced, she embraced it completely as witnessed by her remarkable accomplishments. Loretta Mahoney is an inspiration to all.
