Gabriel Safdie Award in Creative Writing

This award was established in 2016 through the generosity of Gabriel Safdie, BA English '64, who has a love for writing.
The Gabriel Safdie Award in Creative Writing is intended to encourage and support deserving full-time students in the Bachelor of Arts program who are enrolled in the Creating Writing or the joint English and Creative Writing program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
The award is granted through an essay based competition, with candidates required to submit one of the following: One (1) short story of a maximum of ten (10) pages, or five (5) poems for a maximum of ten (10) pages, or one (1) act of drama of a maximum of ten (10) pages.
Following the award competition adjudication, the Department of English will provide its recipient recommendation to the Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards Committee each year. This award is not renewable.
PLEASE NOTE: This award will be offered for the first time in the 2017-2018 academic year.
Concordia offers need-based In-Course Bursaries to returning Bachelor's students in the Fall semester.
Application deadline The 2024-2025 Undergraduate In-Course Bursary Program will be open April 1, 2024.
In-Course Bursaries are awarded by the Financial Aid and Awards Office to previously admitted students following an application-based competition that includes a financial need test and holistic committee review. Applicants are notified of the results after the Financial Aid and Awards Office receives results from the bursary committee.
The In-Course Bursary program normally open April 1, 2024 and will close on May 15, 2024.
