Don Arioli Award
Concordia University
Don Arioli was a writer, a gifted draftsman and an entertaining children's television personality. Though small in stature, Don Arioli was a towering force in the world of animation. He was very proud of his work “Loops to Learn By”; a series of single concept films designed to teach children with severe learning disabilities. Don Arioli also worked on Sesame Street, and with Chuck Jones, creator and animator of the Roadrunner and many of the best loved Bugs Bunny films. Don Arioli helped to create such classics as “Another Froggy Evening” and “Chariots of Fur.” Known for his quick wit and infectious smile, Don Arioli used humour as a tool to communicate by and in doing so, created a legacy of delight with his animated works.
The Don Arioli Award is intended to encourage and recognize students who are enrolled in the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema with a study emphasis in animation. This Award will be given out annually. Student recipients will demonstrate a love of animation, a strong knowledge of the work of Don Arioli, and who may also require financial assistance. The successful applicant will also demonstrate commitment, spirit, dedication and delight towards animation and its power to explain, entertain and amuse — as reflected in the career of Don Arioli. Candidates are recommended for this award by Faculty members and staff within the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema.
