Overview

The Diane Guerrera Adopt-A-Student Entrance Bursary in Studio Arts was established in 2008 thanks to the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. J. Renaud and friends in honour of Diane Proulx Guerrera, on the occasion of her birthday.

Diane Guerrera is the co-founder of the CURE Foundation. In 1996, Diane Proulx Guerrera was diagnosed with breast cancer. Following a biopsy, chemotherapy and radiation, Diane was declared cancer-free. Both Diane and her husband wanted to ensure that there would be funds available to continue the research and treatments that had saved her life, and to improve the outcome for those affected by breast cancer. In this spirit, they founded the CURE Foundation for breast cancer in 1996. In order to raise the necessary financial support, the CURE Foundation initiated National Denim Day in 1997. Businesses and organisations were enrouraged to participate by allowing employees to wear denim at work in exchange for a suggested donation to the CURE Foundation.

Since its inception, CURE has helped raise over 14 million dollars for breast cancer research, education, and equipment. Hundreds of thousands of Canadians have worn their jeans to their workplace, to help CURE find a way to eradicate one of the deadliest diseases threatening Canadian families. Diane Proulx Guerrera has, with her husband Sal Guerrera, made a significant difference to the lives of women and their families.

The non-renewable Diane Guerrera Adopt-A-Student Entrance Bursary in Studio Arts is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents or international students and is intended to encourage and reward newly-admitted full-time students in the Studio Arts program.
