Brendan Flynn and Tina Dell’Aquila Award

The Brendan Flynn and Tina Dell’Aquila Award aims to support students entering the University that have overcome hardship and exhibit financial need. The Donor intends to establish the Award through a bequest by the Donor commemorating his life journey with his deceased wife Tina and the influence that Concordia had in their success. The Award aims to acknowledge students who require financial help in combination with resilience and ability to overcome personal hardship.
Selection of recipients shall be made by the University from qualified applicants newly admitted to a full-time course of study leading to Bachelor of /Baccalaureate in degree at the University. Eligible candidates must provide a statement mentioning how they have overcome challenges or hardship in their life. If candidates have indicated that work during studies has been a factor, proof of employment must be provided. Students who are single parents, who are facing economic hardship, who are working to support themselves or their family, who have multiple dependents or who are a caregiver will be encouraged to apply.
Eligible candidates may also self-identify in a short statement as belonging to a historically disadvantaged group, such as, but not limited to: • Black • Hispanic or Latino • Native, Aboriginal People of Canada • Asian • LGBTQQIP2SAA • Individuals with a disability(ies) • Individuals from an historically marginalized or disadvantaged background and/or facing hardship due to systemic issues like racism, sexism, geographic origin, and other barriers.
Selection is made on the basis of financial need and the self-identifying statement. Students applying for the Award must undertake a formal and confidential process to demonstrate their financial need to the Financial Aid and Awards Office.
Concordia offers need-based In-Course Bursaries to returning Bachelor's students in the Fall semester.
Application deadline The 2024-2025 Undergraduate In-Course Bursary Program will be open April 1, 2024.
In-Course Bursaries are awarded by the Financial Aid and Awards Office to previously admitted students following an application-based competition that includes a financial need test and holistic committee review. Applicants are notified of the results after the Financial Aid and Awards Office receives results from the bursary committee.
The In-Course Bursary program normally open April 1, 2024 and will close on May 15, 2024.
