Alexandra Olsen Memorial Award
Concordia University
Alexandra Olsen obtained a B.A. in Communication Arts, specializing in Sound at Concordia and later a Masters in Educational Technologies (Distant Education) and a Certificate in Digital Technologies for Design Art.
Alexandra passed away on November 24, 2016 at the age of 40 after a six year, continuous battle with metastatic breast cancer. After being diagnosed, she continued to produce her own music and has left three unpublished albums and a video which her family will distribute. She was passionate about supporting other electronic female artists, as they are few and far between. It is for this reason that her family request that the Alexandra Olsen Memorial Award be given to a female student currently enrolled in the Department of Electroacoustic Studies.
The Alexandra Olsen Memorial Award is part of the Undergraduate In-Course Bursary program. Candidates are considered by the bursary committee each year. Open to full-time and part-time female Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students. Preference given to a female student currently enrolled in Electroacoustic studies; if no eligible candidate in Electroacoustic Studies, a female student currently enrolled in any program in the Department of Music can qualify.
Concordia offers need-based In-Course Bursaries to returning Bachelor's students in the Fall semester.
Application deadline The 2024-2025 Undergraduate In-Course Bursary Program will be open April 1, 2024.
In-Course Bursaries are awarded by the Financial Aid and Awards Office to previously admitted students following an application-based competition that includes a financial need test and holistic committee review. Applicants are notified of the results after the Financial Aid and Awards Office receives results from the bursary committee.
The In-Course Bursary program normally open April 1, 2024 and will close on May 15, 2024.
