Choice of School:
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited four-year college or post secondary school training and enrolled in a curriculum in either of the following fields: architecture, engineering or a construction related studies.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and have participated in some extracurricular school activities. Although extracurricular school activities are required, in considering eligibility, community activities or work from employment may be considered appropriate substitutes.
Nature of Award:
$500 for one academic year. Students awarded scholarships by the MBIA Scholarship Advisory Committee may re-apply for additional scholarship awards for subsequent years as long as they remain in good academic standing.
How to Apply:
Applications are available in the guidance offices of the high schools located in the eight Eastern Shore of Maryland counties listed above. Completed applications must be submitted to the Scholarship Advisory Committee. (Address indicated on Scholarship Application Form) by no later than April 1st to be considered for a scholarship award, only when the following have been submitted:
- A completed scholarship application.
- Official high school transcript of grades.
- Letter of acceptance from college or university.
- An essay about the applicant’s personal character and the reasons for their chosen career path. Specifically, the essay should address the following two questions: a. Why you are choosing a course of study related to the field of construction? b. What goals do you wish to obtain?
- Two letters of recommendation from non-family members (e.g. teacher, guidance counselor, employer, athletic coach, etc.)
- Applicant may be required to be interviewed by the Scholarship Advisory Committee.
Who May Apply:
Current 12th grade students of high schools in the Eastern Shore of Maryland counties of Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Talbot, Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester who have been accepted for admission as a full-time student.
