DONALD A. LUCKHURST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore,
The Donald A. Luckhurst Memorial Scholarship was conceived by Marian K. Luckhurst, mother of Donald, and given by the guardians of her estate. Mr. Luckhurst, after a medical discharge from the U.S. Navy, entered the teaching profession and realized the need for financial aid to graduating seniors.
Choice of School: Applicants must be accepted for full time enrollment at an accredited four-year college or university, or an accredited two-year institution.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants must have demonstrated good citizenship in school and community, high moral standards, and clearly show leadership and community service. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and have a reputation of good character and a strong spirit of cooperation with fellow students and faculty.
Applicants must submit:
- A personal statement of at least 100, but no more than 200 words, that describes your career goals and how you will use your chosen field to better the lives of those in your community. You may also describe why you need this scholarship in your statement.
- A complete list of any community services you have done. This can include, but is not limited to: school, church, clubs, personal projects or activities, along with any paid job(s) you have held.
Nature of Award: $1,000 minimum for one academic year. The amount of the award will be determined by the available to grant balance in the fund and will be split equally between one male and one female graduating senior.
How to Apply:
Applications are available at www.cfes.org or in the school’s Guidance office. Completed applications must be submitted to the Guidance office by the announced deadline to be considered for a scholarship award, only when the following have been submitted:
A completed scholarship application
Official high school transcript of grades
Letter of acceptance from College or University
Two letters of recommendation: one from a faculty member or administrator, and one from a non- family member who is familiar with the applicant’s community activities
Personal statement and list of community services as described above
Applicant may be required to be interviewed by the Scholarship Advisory Committee
Who May Apply:
Applicants must be graduating Seniors of Caesar Rodney High School, residing in the Caesar Rodney District, Kent County, DE.
