Supporting Pecatonica students who embrace the agricultural community

Scholarship Background and Intent

September 22, 1947 – March 11, 2006

This scholarship was established in loving memory of John Flynn who passed away in March 2006. A resident of Pecatonica, Illinois, John graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1965, and received a B.S. degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1970. He was a dedicated member of the Pecatonica School Board for 18 years, serving as President for the last 5 years. John co-founded the Pecatonica Education Foundation, was past-president of the Pecatonica Fans Club, and participated as a member of the Pecatonica football’s “chain-gang” for over 20 years. He served on the Winnebago County Special Education Co-Operative, the Wisconsin Alumni Club of Rockford’s scholarship committee, and the Pecatonica Improvement Association. John was a lector at St. Patrick Irish Grove Catholic Church for 25 years, volunteered at Provena St. Anne’s Nursing Center in Rockford and was a long-time emcee for the Pecatonica Memorial Day Parade.

In honor of John, the Flynn family would like to congratulate and recognize a Pecatonica High School senior who has given back to the community through his/her community service and volunteerism. Special consideration may be given to candidates with an agricultural background.
