Overview

Background:

This scholarship was made possible through the generosity of Mildred Ryan Disher who directed that a portion of her estate be used to establish a fund at the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region to provide scholarships for students entering the field of veterinary science.

Eligibility

Eligibility: (taken into consideration to determine recipients)

• Graduating high school seniors who reside in the Fox Cities (Appleton, Buchanan, Clayton, Combined Locks, Freedom, Grand Chute, Greenville, Harrison, Hortonville, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Little Chute, Menasha, Neenah, Sherwood, and Vandenbroek) • Planning to pursue a career and major in veterinary science at an accredited 2- or 4-year college, university, or technical school as a full-time student • Financial need will be considered

Award Amount:

Number of awards may vary • 4-year university award amount: $1,500 per year renewable for up to four years (total $6,000) to a student in a pre-veterinary program of study. • 2-year college/technical college award: $1,000 per year renewable for up to two years (total $2,000) to a student in a two-year veterinary science program.

Selection:

Recipients are recommended each spring by the Community Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee.

Collecting the Award & Payment Procedure:

Recipients must fill out and submit Scholarship Acceptance Form and Scholarship Verification Form through the Scholarship Portal (https://www.grantinterface.com/Home/Logon?urlkey=cffvrscholar). Recipients are required to provide supporting documents as instructed in the Scholarship Verification Form, such as class registration/list with credits listed, proof of major, grade transcript, etc. After approval of online Scholarship Verification Form, the scholarship check will be paid directly to the school the recipient will be attending. The Community Foundation communicates with students via email; it is the student’s responsibility to keep their Scholarship Portal account updated with their current email address.

Loss of Eligibility:

• Students receiving the 4-year college or university award: o Must maintain a 3.5 grade point average at the end of each year o Must maintain full-time student status o Remain in the veterinary science field • Students receiving the 2-year college/technical college award: o Must maintain a 2.5 grade point average at the end of each year o Must maintain full-time student status o Remain in the veterinary science field Students changing their major should contact the Community Foundation to verify continued eligibility.
