Leila I. Blajeski (“Mrs. B”) Memorial Scholarship Fund

Background:
Leila was born and raised in the Kaukauna area. She began teaching briefly in Luxemburg before returning to her hometown to teach home economics. Even from the age of 10, she was always earning awards fashioning garments. A graduate of UW Madison in 1948 with a B.S. degree in Home Economics education, “Mrs. B” loved crafting everything from wedding gowns to the perfect lemon meringue. In her memory, the Blajeski Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded to encourage graduating seniors to follow in her footsteps.
Eligibility: (taken into consideration to determine recipients) • Graduating seniors from Kaukauna High School • Planning to pursue studies in Family and Consumer Sciences (nutrition, food preparation, parenting, early childhood education, family economics and resource management, human development, interior design, textiles, apparel design, and other related subjects.) at an accredited 2- or 4-year college, university or technical school or an accredited vocational school as a full-time student • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA • Involvement in school and community activities • Demonstrates the following: conscientious and hardworking • Financial need will be considered
Award Amount:
One $1,000 non-renewable scholarship award for cost of attendance.
Selection:
Recipients are recommended each spring by the Kaukauna High School Scholarship Selection Committee.
Collecting the Award & Payment Procedure:
Recipients must fill out and submit Scholarship Acceptance Form and Scholarship Verification Form through the Scholarship Portal (https://www.grantinterface.com/Home/Logon?urlkey=cffvrscholar). Recipients are required to provide supporting documents as instructed in the Scholarship Verification Form, such as class registration/list with credits listed, proof of major, grade transcript, etc. After approval of online Scholarship Verification Form, the scholarship check will be paid directly to the school the recipient will be attending. The Community Foundation communicates with students via email; it is the student’s responsibility to keep their Scholarship Portal account updated with their current email address.
Loss of Eligibility:
Failure to register as a full-time student for the first semester of freshman year of college and enrolled in a field of study related to Family and Consumer Sciences.
