Overview

Joy and Jim Perry are examples of the transformational impact a college education can make in a person’s life. Making a transformational impact is their goal in the creation of this scholarship. Joy earned her BS in General Biology from Purdue University and MS in Plant Pathology from UW Madison. After an extensive teaching career Joy retired as Senior Lecturer of Biological Science at University of Wisconsin Fox Valley. Joy is an avid gardener and shares this knowledge promoting community and school gardens and locally sourced food. Jim began college at UW Marathon County, a 2-year campus. Earning his BS, MS, and PhD in the Biological Sciences, Jim taught and chaired the Department of Biology, Wildlife and Fisheries at Frostburg State University in Maryland. Jim retired as University of Wisconsin Fox Valley Campus Executive Officer & Dean, having served in that position for 18 years. Joy and Jim are avid outdoors people and environmentalists.

Eligibility

Eligibility: (taken into consideration to determine recipients)

• Non-traditional students (22 years or older) who will be attending the UWO-Fox Cities campus • Pursuing any major offered at UWO-Fox Cities campus • Must be taking a minimum of 8 credits at UWO-Fox Cities campus • Minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA • Financial need will be considered • This scholarship will be available every other year

Award Amount:

Total award potential of $7,000. A $1,000 scholarship is available for the first semester. The scholarship is renewable up to 3 additional semesters with an award of $2,000 in each additional semester providing the student maintains all eligibility requirements.

Selection:

Recipients are recommended by the UWO-Fox Cities campus scholarship selection committee.

Collecting the Award & Payment Procedure:

Recipients must fill out and submit Scholarship Acceptance Form and Scholarship Verification Form through the Scholarship Portal (https://www.grantinterface.com/Home/Logon?urlkey=cffvrscholar). Recipients are required to provide supporting documents as instructed in the Scholarship Verification Form, such as class registration/list with credits listed, proof of major, grade transcript, etc. After approval of online Scholarship Verification Form, the scholarship check will be paid directly to the school the recipient will be attending. The Community Foundation communicates with students via email; it is the student’s responsibility to keep their Scholarship Portal account updated with their current email address.

Loss of Eligibility:

Failure to register for a minimum of 8 credits with a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA at UWO-Fox Cities campus.
