Overview

Background:

The Berg brothers, Joe and Ted, enjoyed the game of golf. Ted was an occasional golfer, while Joe played in several golf leagues and enjoyed playing on all area courses. Joe was also a lifetime Appleton Wire Works employee. He was involved in his church and was an American Legion and VFW member. This scholarship was established to provide annual scholarships to golfers from each of the following high schools in Appleton, WI: Appleton East, North and West, Fox Valley Lutheran and St. Francis Xavier.

Eligibility

Eligibility: (taken into consideration to determine recipients)

• Graduating seniors from the following: o Appleton East High School o Appleton North High School o Appleton West High School o Fox Valley Lutheran High School o St. Francis Xavier High School • Planning to attend a college, university, or technical school as a full-time student • Maintained good academic standing • Participated in their high school’s varsity golf team • Demonstrated enthusiasm for golf, intent to continue to play the game competitively or recreationally, high regard for teammates and high degree of integrity

Award Amount:

$3,000 non-renewable scholarship awards for two students, typically of different genders, from each high school (total 10 awards), payable for the fall semester.

Selection:

Recipients are recommended in the spring by each High School’s Scholarship Selection Committee.

Collecting the Award & Payment Procedure:

Recipients must fill out and submit Scholarship Acceptance Form and Scholarship Verification Form through the Scholarship Portal (https://www.grantinterface.com/Home/Logon?urlkey=cffvrscholar). Recipients are required to provide supporting documents as instructed in the Scholarship Verification Form, such as class registration/list with credits listed, proof of major, grade transcript, etc. After approval of online Scholarship Verification Form, the scholarship check will be paid directly to the school the recipient will be attending. The Community Foundation communicates with students via email; it is the student’s responsibility to keep their Scholarship Portal account updated with their current email address.

Loss of Eligibility:

Failure to register as a full-time student for the first semester of freshman year of college.
