Overview

Background:

The Gold Cross Ambulance Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Steven E. Gerbers, to financially assist students who are interested in pursuing a profession as a Paramedic. Steve started his employment with Gold Cross Ambulance Service as a paramedic in August 1979. During his 29 years of service, he was promoted to Paramedic Supervisor and then to the Communications Supervisor. Steve passed away in December 2008 while still employed at Gold Cross Ambulance Service. Steve was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1973. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He enjoyed spending time at the cabin he built near Wabeno, WI. Steve, or “Gerbs” as his coworkers referred to him, truly enjoyed helping people in their time of need. He felt being a paramedic was an extremely gratifying profession. He was very wellrespected during his tenure at Gold Cross Ambulance Service.
