Gardner Dam Camp Staff Scholarships – Mildred, Milton, & Thomas Kreif Scholarship

Background:

The Mildred, Milton and Thomas Kreif Scholarship was created to recognize and assist summer staff members at Boy Scouts of America, Camp Gardner Dam, in their pursuit of post high school education. This scholarship will give summer staff members that exemplify motivational qualities and that provide a superb experience for camp scouts, the opportunity to work at the camp, while being able to earn and save money for their future educational endeavors. Tom Kreif, a former Appleton Area School District educator and former Camp Director, has 40+ years of service at Gardner Dam Scout Camp, located on the Wolf River in White Lake, WI. His parents, Mildred and Milton, retired from West Bend Company, West Bend, WI, volunteered and worked at the camp for over a quarter century. Together, they have given 160 years of support to the Scouting movement.

Eligibility: (taken into consideration to determine recipients)

• Gardner Dam Camp staff members • Attend or will be attending a private or public college, university or technical school in the fall semester immediately following their summer employment at Camp Gardner Dam as a full-time student • Motivation to serve and to succeed

Award Amount:

One $1,200 non-renewable scholarship award for tuition expenses.

Selection:

Recipients will be recommended each fall by the Gardener Dam Scholarship Selection Committee and the Community Foundation.

Collecting the Award & Payment Procedure:

Recipients must fill out and submit Scholarship Acceptance Form and Scholarship Verification Form through the Scholarship Portal (https://www.grantinterface.com/Home/Logon?urlkey=cffvrscholar). Recipients are required to provide supporting documents as instructed in the Scholarship Verification Form, such as class registration/list with credits listed, proof of major, grade transcript, etc. After approval of online Scholarship Verification Form, the scholarship check will be paid directly to the school the recipient will be attending. The Community Foundation communicates with students via email; it is the student’s responsibility to keep their Scholarship Portal account updated with their current email address.

Loss of Eligibility:

Failure to register as a full-time student at an accredited 2- or 4-year college, university, or technical school for the spring semester.
