Overview

Background:

Anthony (Tony) H. Simon and his wife Dorothy provided for an after-lifetime gift to the Community Foundation to establish the Anthony H. Simon English Scholarship Fund to benefit students from Menasha High School. Tony passed away on September 30, 2008 at the age of 86. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Beard on December 13, 1947, in Menasha, WI. Tony served his country for 26 years in the military, in the European Theatre, in World War II, in the 32nd Division of the National Guard. He was on Active Duty during World War II, for the Berlin Crisis, for over 5 years, in 1961. After his retirement as an English Teacher from Menasha High School in 1968, he and Dorothy spent 20 years at a lake home, in Post Lake, Elcho. They then moved back to the Neenah/Menasha area and continued to enjoy time at the lake. Tony earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree and wrote and published a book, “Teaching Windows of the Mind.” He was a lifelong member of St. John Catholic Church, in Menasha, and was a member of the Neenah/Menasha Elks #676 for over 50 years. He also enjoyed golfing and liked to relax while reading a good book.
