MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology The primary goal of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is to understand biological processes at the molecular level, with the ultimate aim of using this knowledge to tackle specific problems in human health and disease.
The LMB is one of the birthplaces of modern molecular biology. Many techniques were pioneered at the laboratory, most notably the sequencing of DNA. Over the years, the work of LMB scientists has attracted 11 Nobel prizes shared amongst 16 LMB scientists, as well as numerous other prizes and scientific awards.
The LMB works with the Cambridge Trust to offer the LMB Cambridge Scholarship, which is available to PhD applicants to the Laboratory. See the LMB website for further information about the PhD programme and how to apply.
This scholarship is available for PhD applicants with International Fee status in Molecular Biology. It is tenable at any College.

How to apply
Candidates are selected by MRC LMB (not the Trust)
To ensure that they are considered for this scholarship, applicants must:
- check with the Laboratory of Molecular Biology the funding call deadlines and details of the application process, and apply accordingly; and
- apply for admission to the University of Cambridge by the funding deadline specific to their course (please refer to the Postgraduate Course Directory)
