Overview

The University of Cambridge is one of the world's most celebrated universities. It is regularly listed at or near the top of global university rankings, earning that accolade through the quality of its research and teaching. It is a self-governed community of scholars, and comprises 31 Colleges, and over 150 departments, faculties, schools and other institutions.

The University is also one of the world's oldest universities, having celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2009. While taking pride in its illustrious history, it focuses on research capable of transforming human knowledge and society.

The stated aim of the University is "to contribute to society through the pursuit of education, learning, and research at the highest international levels of excellence."

The University makes a substantial donation each year to the Cambridge Trust, assisting with many scholarship programmes, especially the Vice-Chancellor's Awards, the Cambridge International Scholarships and the Cambridge Africa Scholarships

Eligibility

Cambridge Opportunity Studentships are for Masters students from low-income households with experience of educational disadvantage who are set at the Home rate for fees.

Get In Cambridge Studentships follow the same criteria and are reserved to address under-representation of students from Black, British Bangladeshi or British Pakistani backgrounds.

Value

Conditions

  • Essential criteria:
  • Applicants must not already be qualified at Masters level or higher, nor currently undertaking postgraduate study
  • You must also be able to agree with the following statement, and to provide evidence on request: I do not have the existing financial means (in the form of savings, assets, other awards, or an income independent of hours worked) to finance the proposed course of study

Additional criteria:

  • In addition to the essential criteria above, other additional criteria is detailed on the admissions application form. If there are other challenging life circumstances you feel should be taken into account, for example, educational disruption due to moving school or illness, doing paid work during full-time undergraduate study, circumstances that limited your choice of undergraduate university, an unusual route to postgraduate study, or anything else, then you may be eligible

How to apply

No separate application is required for this studentship, only the application for admission to the University of Cambridge, which must be submitted by the funding deadline specific to your course (please refer to the Postgraduate Course Directory)

If you wish to be considered for these awards, you will be required to answer specific questions as part of the admissions application form
