​Sophia High School Memorial ​Scholarship Fund

Although Woodrow C. Darnell had not lived in West Virginia for many years, he continued to remember his roots. Residents of Texas, Woody and his wife Claudia searched for a local community foundation while visiting in Raleigh Co. They arrived at the BAF office with a checkbook and a purpose in mind. They made the required contribution to start building a named scholarship fund. Their intention was to encourage others who attended Sophia HS to join them in creating a scholarship endowment that will provide both permanent recognition for the school and an on-going source of scholarship funds for students who have a relative who attended Sophia High School. Selection of the recipients shall be made by the Sophia HS Alumni Association and approved by the BAF board of directors. Woody died in 2008 and Claudia died in 2012. The Sophia Alumni Association continues to make donations.

• Need and merit based.
• Strong average students are preferred
• Must be enrolled at a junior college, business school, trade school, college, university or any other accredited post high school education program.
