​J.W. “Jim” and Sallie Word, Jr. ​Scholarship Fund

The Concord University Foundation, Inc., at the suggestion of President Jerry Beasley, established this fund to honor a couple who have long supported BAF and our community. Distributions from the endowment will be used to assist a Concord University student, preferably from Raleigh Co., who has shown evidence of academic promise and demonstrates financial need. Jim and Sallie, as well as the Walker Foundation, subsequently made generous donations to this fund. Jim was one of the original incorporators of BAF and his wife Sallie, children, and grandchildren have remained actively involved with the Foundation since its inception. Jim passed away in 2004 and Sallie passed in January 2015.

• Aid to student attending Concord University who has shown evidence of academic promise and financial need.
• Preference will be given to eligible candidates from Raleigh County, WV.

Renewable: Yes; must re-apply annually and maintain good academic standing.
