Siblings A.V. Bowman and Bonnie Thurston wished to honor their father in a permanent fashion following his death in 2004. This is one of two BAF endowments that they initiated. E.V. was a mining engineer who graduated from Virginia Tech in 1941 and returned to teach and earn a master’s degree. The scholarship recipient must have graduated from a high school in Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Mercer, or Wyoming Counties, be of good moral character and have a B or better average.

Eligibility

Eligibility:

  • Graduates of Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Mercer or Wyoming counties of West Virginia attending VA Tech.
  • College upperclassmen (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) as well as graduating seniors.
  • Engineering field of study.
  • “B” average or better.
  • Need based

Renewable: Yes, imust be a full-time student working toward an engineering degree and maintaining “B” average. Renewable for four years after the initial award–total assistance of five years.
